Rio de Janeiro

Summary

Although the second largest city in Brazil is well-know as a cosmopolitan tropical paradise, the natural beauties of Rio de Janeiro are blended with an intense cultural life, excellent hospitality and a distinct atmosphere. The city has some of the world`s most famous beaches (such as Copacabana and Ipanema), lagoons, a tropical rain forest (Tijuca Forest) and mountains with great view such as Sugar Loaf and Corcovado (which hosts the statue of Christ the Redeemer, now considered one of the world’s 7 wonders). Rio’s Carnival is also very famous all over the world and the visitors are swept away by the Carioca spirit as they learn samba music to join street bands and groups during this popular event. Another Rio de Janeiro’s popular event famous all over the world is the New Year`s Eve on Copacabana beach, which leads thousands of people to see a magic show of lights. Soccer fans must watch a match at Maracanã stadium, one of the biggest and most traditional stadiums in the world. Further more, this beautiful city has a great tourist infrastructure, including many theaters, cinemas, museums, fairs, bars, restaurants, monuments and shopping facilities (created to meet all tastes and budgets).
