The year 2021 was a year of recovery for Brazilian tourism, and the Itaipu Tourist Complex, in Foz do Iguaçu (PR), could not be different. The site registered a 22.2% increase in the number of tourists compared to 2020, reaching 285,401 thousand visitors last year. Of this total, almost half come from the state of Paraná, followed by São Paulo and Santa Catarina. With the opening of borders, foreigners represented 1.47% of the total number of visitors.
The minister of Tourism, Gilson Machado Neto, highlighted the data obtained by the tourist attraction and reinforced the important moment that the sector is experiencing. “It’s a very encouraging number and one that reinforces the recovery of our sector and the confidence of Brazilians in traveling and passing through the country’s tourist attractions. This is the result of the good work carried out by the federal government, uniting the adoption of sanitary protocols, such as the Responsible Tourism Seal and the massive vaccination of the Brazilian population”, he highlighted.
Among the tours with the greatest movement is Itaipu Panoramic. More than 213,000 people visited this attraction alone throughout the year. The Bela Vista Biological Refuge and Itaipu Iluminada, which returned in October, were also some of the favorite destinations for visitors. In addition to these spaces, the complex also features the Ecomuseum, which is under construction to provide greater convenience to local residents and tourists.
For 2022, the space will receive adaptations for accessibility, modernization of bathrooms and lockers, for example. Another highlight will be the transfer of the Casimiro Montenegro Filho Astronomy Pole to another projection room, which will feature a new and powerful telescope. Currently, the attraction is located in the Itaipu Technological Park (PTI).
